COMPASS Exam Review
|
The Compass Exam in Mathematics helps determine two things:
(1) Whether the student has met the math criterion for admission to Hunter College;
(2) Where the student should begin in the sequence of courses in the Math / Stat
Department
We have identified several important sources of information for you to review before you take the test - because you may only take this exam one time.
The website link http://portal.cuny.edu/cms/id/cuny/documents/informationpage/002147.htm
on the CUNY Website gives general information regarding the COMPASS MATH test for students and parents as well as a brief summary of practice questions.
The website http://admissions.hunter.cuny.edu/Testing/pdform.htm on the Hunter Testing Website
gives you some sample questions from COMPASS / ACT, the developers of the exam.
This website will give you an overview of the exam and gives you samples of the types of questions that will be asked.
The website http://www.cunymath.cuny.edu/rfs_COMP.php also set up by the City University gives you extensive
on-line practice materials by linking you to other colleges across the nation who have developed materials for review. These materials, while all different in nature,
give you diagnostic tests as well as drill and practice on topics on the exam. I encourage you to view them all and work extensively on the ones which fit with your
particular learning style. I strongly suggest that you make sure you check out the Hostos Community College website in particular - it is fairly comprehensive.
Within the Hunter College Dolciani Mathematics Learning Center website, you will find a section called "Multi-media Materials." If you click on COMPASS exam,
you will see a listing of the multi-media materials that are available in the Center should you need to review concepts. These materials are comprised of tutorial
CDs and DVDs, videotapes, and computer-assisted tutorials all of which are available to you for drill and practice.
Click on "Multimedia Lab" for the hours that the Center is open.
Please remember that all of these materials are only samples of the types of topics you may be asked on the exam.
The exam is a secure exam and the questions asked on the test may look different from those you have practiced.
However, the listing of topics remains the same.
Good Luck!
